Using Google Analytics Public ID Event Parameter

Note: The Public ID Event Parameter is only necessary if you're handling multiple websites with a single Google Analytics Data Stream or Tracking ID, and you wish to segment your reports based on each account's Public ID.

FMG dispatches a custom event parameter with all captured events to assist you in categorizing accounts by their public ID number. In this guide, we'll walk you through how to establish and utilize the public_id event parameter feature in your Google Analytics account.

Understanding the Public ID Event Parameter:

The "public_id" event parameter enhances the depth of your Google Analytics reports. To incorporate this parameter into your reports, you need to initially configure a custom dimension in your Google Analytics account.

Setting Up Custom Dimensions:

  1. Navigate to the Google Analytics Admin and select Custom definitions under Data Display.
    Step1Google
  2. Click on the Custom dimensions tab.
    step2googlepublicid
  3. Select Create custom dimension.
    Step3google
  4. Next, fill in the required fields:
    • Dimension name: Choose a unique name (e.g., Public ID).
    • Scope: Opt for Event to create an event-scoped custom dimension.
    • Description: Provide a brief description (e.g., Public Identifier for Company).
    • Event parameter: Enter this custom event parameter name: public_id
  5. Click Save to create the custom dimension.

Viewing the Event Parameter in Reports:

Once the custom dimension is set up, you can view the "public_id" event parameter in your reports. Please allow 24-48 hours for the custom dimension to be available in your reports after sending the custom data.
