Why does my message history show one text sent to several people?
Understand why the same message can appear under multiple contacts
MyRepChat is built primarily as a tool for compliant, monitorable, and archivable texting. Because of this, texting happens between phone numbers — not contacts — so the platform is fundamentally number-based rather than contact-based.
Why Does the Same Message Show Up for Multiple Contacts?
If the same phone number is saved to more than one contact record, any message sent to that number appears in your message log for every contact tied to it — even though only the person physically holding that phone actually receives the text.
For example, if one number is tied to three separate contact records, sending a text to that number will visually appear as if it was sent to all three contacts. Each contact's message history will show the identical message — but only the person who actually holds that phone receives it.
This is a visual/record-keeping effect of MyRepChat being number-based, not an indication that the message was actually delivered to multiple people.
How Do I Figure Out Which Contact Actually Owns a Number?
- Check your CRM for the correct owner of that number.
- If you use a CRM, import contacts into MyRepChat from your CRM rather than creating them manually.
Note:
- Manually creating a contact that also exists in your CRM can create duplicates, increasing the chance of this same message appearing multiple times in your feed.
- Contacts created manually in MyRepChat won't sync their message notes back to your CRM.
