What if I change my phone carrier/voice provider? (Hosted SMS)
Keep your texting active when switching carriers on a Hosted SMS number
If you picked a new number for use with MyRepChat, this article doesn't apply to your account.
When you text-enable a landline or VoIP number for MyRepChat, that's called Hosted SMS. To set this up, our carrier applies unique routing to the texting (SMS/MMS) portion of your phone number so MyRepChat can send and receive messages. If your carrier is a VoIP provider, you likely contacted them directly to request releasing the SPID.
By default, when a new carrier takes over your business line's voice and features, they apply their own routing to both the voice and texting portions of the line. If the new carrier doesn't preserve the texting route (SPID/NNID) to MyRepChat, incoming messages will be interrupted and can't be delivered until the route is reestablished.
MyRepChat is not automatically notified if the SMS routing on your number is overwritten by a new carrier.
How Do I Avoid a Texting Interruption During a Planned Carrier Change?
- Ask your new carrier if they can preserve the existing text (SMS/MMS) routing for MyRepChat. Not all carriers are able or willing to do this.
- Contact MyRepChat support to let us know about the carrier change and its timing. After the port, we'll check and configure the number to minimize any interruption to texting.
How Do I Reestablish Texting After a Carrier Change?
If your port or carrier change is complete and you're not receiving text messages, contact MyRepChat Client Experience to reestablish Hosted SMS and reconfigure your number.
